Microsoft have announced a brand new controller for the Xbox 360, a wireless microphone.
The new microphone is designed to be used with the huge number of music games that have already been released aswell as ones that are due for release in the future. Just a few games that were pointed out during the announcement were Lips, Guitar Hero Metallica, Rock Band 2, The Beatles: Rock Band and finally Lips: Number One Hits.
They also said that the new microphone features high quality voice reproduction technology aswell as interactive motion sensors and lights to make sure that you give you best performance, and look great, while belting out a song.
Although the microphone is something new for the Xbox 360 to make themselves, the microphone controller in general has already been done. When you buy any of these games that include singing, they come with a microphone, eliminating the need for the Xbox 360 official one. The only advantage to Xbox releasing this new controller would be for people that change their mind after buying the game and want to buy only the microphone.
Another thing that seems odd is that when they announced this new controller, they made it sound like it was something new, but it isn’t. The microphone is not a new design or a new idea. It’s simply the Lips microphone and the only difference that Xbox has made is changing the colour of the lights to green.
So, really Microsoft is releasing a standalone Lips microphone that is compatible with other music games, which I assume the current Lips microphones already are?
Well they had to jump on the bandwagon sooner or later didn’t they? When they say it features ‘high quality voice reproduction’ – what exactly do they mean by that? Simply that it works well?!
I think they’re trying to make it sound like their ‘new’ one is so much better than any others currently on the market in the hope that some people will buy this one over their current one maybe :p
