It seems that this week Microsoft and Sony are trying to try and impress everyone with their sales figures.
Yesterday on Eurogamer.net it was posted that Microsoft had said that they have sold more Xbox 360′s than PlayStation 3′s in all regions of Europe, even in places like Spain and France which are meant to be loyal to PlayStation.
They also said that since their price cuts in September, Microsoft have recorded a 124% rise in sales since this time last year whereas PlayStation 3 have only increase by 3%.
Now when you read this you think that Microsoft is doing some good sales. But then when you turn to the Game.co.uk website, it’s a different picture.
On the Game website a news article was posted where Sony said that their sales were greater than Microsoft’s, but here’s the odd thing. David Reeves, Sony’s Computer Entertainment Europe President, said that the PlayStation 3 has sold more than 300,000 more units than the Xbox 360 across the PAL territories which include areas of Europe and other places like Australia.
Now to me that sounds rather odd, to me, it sounds like Sony is just adding country sales together to beat Microsoft. Microsoft were just saying Europe; Sony is saying Europe and some other places like Australia.
So how can you compare the 2 when they are both giving different sales figures. Also, David Reeves continued to say “we might have a comparatively smaller share of the market we will have higher sales.” So he is admitting that Sony have a smaller section of the market. I’m slightly confused, Microsoft say they have more than Sony, then Sony come back saying no they have more but in more countries, and then they also say that they have a smaller share in the market, basically admitting that they are selling less.
Confusing stuff.
