What is the best game of 2008?

Now, this question is a difficult one, which is the best game of 2008? With the new year coming closer, I thought I would ask this question.
There have been so many brilliant games out this year, including:
Gears of War 2 – This amazing sequel to the original gear was absolutely amazing and the story just seems to get deeper and deeper as you go through,
Call of Duty: World at War – This game is pretty good, I don’t feel it was as good as CoD4, but still deserves to be one of the best game,
Fable 2 – Fable 2 was not as good as I expected, It was brilliant, and such an improvement on the first, but I feel it was rather shorter and easier than I expected,
Mirror’s Edge – I’m still playing this one but it really makes me gasp at the graphics and game play of the game, awesome,
Rock Band 2 – This was just outstanding, I love the setlist, although not many changes from Rock Band 1, they couldn’t really improve it,
Guitar Hero World Tour – I was not really amazed by the setlist or layout of GHWT but the whole customisation and new drums and guitar were awesome,
Lego Batman – You may be thinking that why is this game in the list but I loved it, just like all the other Lego games, fun for the whole family,
Far Cry 2 – For some reason I haven’t completed this yet, WoW and other games seemed to over take it, but it’s a truly outstanding game, the graphics and story is brilliant, it keeps you playing for hours on end,
Grand Theft Auto IV – very similar to every other Grand Theft Auto game, and that’s was made it great, plus with the better graphics and story line that changes depending on your choices, superb,
World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King – Simply amazing, the new level boundaries and new instances, raid content and new Death Knight class, this game will keep me entertained for hours on end.
And these are just a few of the many great games. My personal best game of 2008 would have to be between Gears of War 2 and Rock Band 2, both of these games were absolutely brilliant and they both deserve to be the best, as do the rest of the list above, but I would have to say that my favorite game of 2008 was Gears of War 2. It was action packed and kept me entertained for weeks.

It’s hard to point to one best game. I guess my vote would go for Fable 2. Because the way you affect the gaming world is a industry changer, in my opinion.
Yeh I agree with you, it’s hard to point at the best game. I think you have a good point about Fable 2, the way the game adapts to your actions is awesome and it’s starting to be seen in games like GTA4 and Far Cry 2, but only slightly…
has to be gears 2 the campain is amazing, It has huge full scale battles, the beginng of act 1 on the transport trying to get to the drill zone is amazing with brumach and everything coming at you. The multiplayer is still average though they need to take lessons of halo if you ask me.
I just loved GTA 4 in my opinion the series is just getting better and better. Especially loved what they did with the new graphics. I played that for hours.
