The awards have been handed out at this years Video Game BAFTA awards and some seem to be very surprising. Here they are:

  • Technical Achievement – SPORE
  • Best Game – Super Mario Galaxy
  • Handheld – Professor Layton and The Curious Village
  • Sports – Race Driver: GRID
  • Strategy – Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution
  • Original Score – Dead Space
  • Artistic Achievement – LittleBigPlanet
  • Multiplayer – Left 4 Dead
  • Casual – Boom Blox
  • Story and Character – Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
  • Use of Audio – Dead Space
  • One to Watch – Boro-Toro
  • Game Award of 2008 – Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
  • Action and Adventure – Fable 2
  • Gameplay – Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

It’s no surprise that Call of Duty 4 ran away with a bunch of awards, however, it is a huge surprise that Super Mario Galaxy managed to get the best game. I know it is a good game, but considering it was up against some amazing games like Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Rock Band, Fallout 3, Fable 2 and Grand Theft Auto 4.

Apart from that quite shocking result, all the others don’t come with any surprises, however, I think LittleBigPlanet was lucky to win the Artistic Achievement considering other nominees for that one included Gear of War 2 and Assassins Creed.

My favourite games are mainly FPS games, Halo, Gears of War and Call of Duty are particular favourites. However, I'll play pretty much all genres of games, anything from Guitar Hero 5 to Lego Harry Potter, they're all great!
