Trials HD Game Review

I don’t normally buy the Xbox Live Arcade games, but recently there have been some popular ones to hit the store. The first one being Shadow Complex, the first arcade game created by Epic, the makers of Gears of War. When I played the trial of this, I didn’t think much of it, so with 1200 Microsoft Points burning a hole in my avatar’s pocket, I opted for the other popular one, Trials HD.

Trials HD is a physics based motorcycle game where you have to ride through over 50 tracks, using your speed and posture to get over ramps, tires and lots of junk, all while avoiding the humorous explosives which send you flying if you mess up.

The 50+ different levels are spread across 5 different difficulties which you unlock by completing the previous one. Starting on Easy going all the way up to Extreme, each levels prove more difficult and sometimes pushes your patience to the limit.

Despite the game being frustrating at times when you just try and try again at this one stage, it’s quite addictive. As you play through the levels trying to get your best time, when you get stuck, you just want to keep doing it until you get past it, no matter what time you get at the end of the level.

Once you get through each level you are given a medal for your performance, bronze, silver or gold. Getting each medal relies on 2 things, the time taken for you to complete the course and whether you returned to any checkpoints within the level. One good feature of the game is that you can rank yourself against your Xbox 360 buddies.

When you start racing, along the top is a bar which tracks you along with your Xbox buddies and you can see how far ahead or behind you are of their time. Then at the end of the level, you are ranked and you can see who got the fastest time.

There are a number of features as well as the basic maps, you can create your own maps (which gets you an achievement) and than share them over Xbox Live. There are also Tournaments which you can unlock by completing the normal levels, and finally, there are skill games which are great fun. They include a range of challenges that you have to complete like break as many bones as you can or ride inside the rolling ball for as long as possible.

Summary

Overall, the game is extremely good,  it’s very addictive and keeps you playing for hours on end until you have reached the end goal of completing all the levels. Once you have completed them, you can return to any you like to improve your time and awarded medal.

The controls are easy to pick up and it’s just a case of learning what’s the best way to get over high ramps and big tires.

Good Points = Good graphics for an arcade game, really fun to play, lots of stuff to do.

Bad Points = Getting stuck of stages can get frustrating.

I give this game a 9/10.

My favourite games are mainly FPS games, Halo, Gears of War and Call of Duty are particular favourites. However, I'll play pretty much all genres of games, anything from Guitar Hero 5 to Lego Harry Potter, they're all great!

  1. This sound like my kind of game – utterly frustrating. It’s the type of game that has me throwing controllers at the screen lol.

  2. I love this game! It’s so addictive. The one where you are inside the steel ball is sooo difficult, but it’s cool seeing where your mates have got to.
