It seems that Xbox and Sky have teamed up to bring Xbox 360 owners live TV over the internet. By using Sky’s online TV service, The Sky Player, Sky TV will be coming to the Xbox 360 in autumn this year.
There will be a whole range of content including movies, sports and music, and you won’t even need a satellite dish, they say aslong as you have a connection to the internet you will be able to stream live TV through your Xbox.
You may be wondering if this is going to be free, but no luck, there is a live service available which allows you to watch the programmes anytime during the day which will carry a monthly fee, and then there is a pay per view where you quite obviously pay per thing you view. For current Sky subscribers, you will be able to hook up directly through your current Sky account and won’t have to pay any extra.
It will be interesting to see what other features to plan to roll into it, aswell as seeing a price chart which they say they will release soon.
Microsoft are also looking to add more interactivity to the programs that will be available using the Xbox 360 features, for example, they say they are considering having chat during football so you can talk to your mates while watching the football, sounds like a pretty good idea.
At the moment it seems too limited to really be of any value, but the processes and technology that they are effectively trialing is going to be brilliant if it can be rolled out fully, it might finally fulfill the idea that your games console can really be an all in one entertainment centre.
