A demo for the upcoming Green Day: Rock Band was released today on both the Xbox Live Marketplace and the Playstation Network. With this demo, also came a little teaser from Harmonix regarding the recently announced, Rock Band 3.
The image that you see above is displayed when you close the demo. As you can see, there are the normal guitar, bass and drums logos. However, rather than the single microphone, there are 3, this is to represent the ability to have 2 back singers. The other new logo is that of a keyboard which would suggest that we’ll be seeing a new instrument with the release of the game.
The vocal harmonies doesn’t come as too much of a surprise considering this feature was first introduced in The Beatles: Rock Band.
Although this is all good news for the upcoming game, it does create some unanswered questions. For example, how many buttons will the keyboard have? Will we be able to use the keyboard of the current song library? How much will this add to the band bundle?
All those aside, I will be looking forward to see some pictures of the new controllers in the near future.
Green Day is a good band and i enjoy all of their albums, but like, 95% of Led Zeps songs are great and the other 5 are almost as good, how can you say they only hav 4-5 good songs? GD:RB is gonna be cool and its not just an expensive track pack.
I would just give it 3 stars. Seriously… Look, I know it’s a great game. I have had a blast at Rock Band parties. I’ve logged more hours than I care to admit into this game. But… the Xbox 360 version is better, the lack of a bass guitar or Guitar Hero axe support combined with the bizarre number of broken instruments hold this back from being a 4-5 star game.
A source has stated to Ars Technica that in lieu of an actual piano attachment to Rock Band 3, a Keytar will be provided instead. A Keytar is exactly as it sounds, an electrical guitar that utilizes piano keys rather than strings. The attachment is most likely going to be made by Madcatz, who is handling the entire official set of “instruments.” I just want to clear my doubt with you being more knowledgeable than me. Is this true?
Yes, its true. I have read that the big news is certainly the addition of real instruments like the keyboard. In standard mode, players will be tasked with playing five keys on the keyboard. In Pro Mode, all 25 keys are used, and the device doubles as a MIDI keyboard that can be connected to a computer! Awesome!
I have always believed this kinda controllers to be a waste of money as generally they can be used with one game (series) at a time. wonder if ever there will be a controllers sold which will work for all rhythm games without having any patches , hack or something like that. It would be real cool to have branded music instruments made for specifically playing with such games
Hi Scott, I think you’ll find that the majority of the official controllers will work across all of the music based games. I myself use the Guitar Hero 3 guitar on the newest games such as Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero 5.
