Yesterday, Microsoft official announced the next update to Xbox Live. Although it doesn’t bring all the features talked about at Expo 2009, there’s still a number of good ones that we will be getting our hands on. Below you will find some of the features that you can expect to see coming to your Xbox this August.
Updates for Netflix: The online movie service is being updated allowing you to watch movies with your Xbox Live buddies using a virtual cinema which hold 7 people. You will also be able to manage the queue of your movie downloads to suite your needs.
Avatar Marketplace: Microsoft will be launching the new Avatar Marketplace which will allow you to buy clothing and accessories for your Xbox 360 avatar, all for the cost of Microsoft Points of course. If you don’t fancy buying clothing, they are also introducing clothing and accessories through game achievements.
Games of Demand: This service will allow you to download Xbox 360 games onto your Xbox at anytime during the day. Microsoft are allowing different payment methods for these, you will be able to pay via Microsoft Points, Direct Debit or Credit Card and the games will be yours forever because they will be linked to your Xbox Live account meaning you can download them onto any Xbox 360.
There are also a load of other improvements that will be included in this update, including: The ability to show off how long you’ve been a Xbox Live Gold member. You will also have the ablity to launch a game via the achievements browser, which has been pimped out.
A couple of updates that I will be very happy to see is that Microsoft will now be notifying you when you sign into Xbox Live when your Xbox Live subscription is about to run out. The other one is that they have made the account recovery system a lot faster meaning you won’t be waiting for 20 minutes to download your profile round a friends.
Although these are some good updates, there are a number of features that won’t be included, such as, Facebook, Twitter, Zune Video and Last.fm. All these features are expected later on this Autumn, can’t wait!
I’m so glad that they managed to implement most of the things mentioned at Expo. Now if we only had a netflix like service in the UK, we’d be sorted.
