Microsoft have announced today, via Major Nelson, that the prices for the Xbox Live service will be going up on 1st November 2010. The price updates are going to take effect in the United States, United Kingdom, Mexico and Canada.
The biggest rises go to the United States where all their subscriptions are being increased. The one month subscription will go from $7.99 to $9.99, the 3 month subscription will go from $19.99 to $24.99. The biggest rise comes to the annual subscription which is increasing by $10, making the new price (as of November 1st) $59.99.
The United Kingdom, Mexico and Canada have got off pretty lightly, only the 1 month subscription price will be increasing. In the United Kingdom, the fee will increase by £1 making it £5.99, Canada will see a $1 increase making the new price $9.99 (that’s Canadian dollars) and finally Mexico will increase by 100 Pesos making a 1 month subscription 599 Pesos.
Remember, all the other subscriptions in the United Kingdom, Mexico and Canada will remain at their current costs.
Major Nelson had the following to say about the price increases:
Since launching Xbox LIVE in 2002 we have continually added more content and entertainment experiences for our members, while keeping the price the same. We’re confident that when the new pricing takes effect, an Xbox LIVE Gold membership will continue to offer the best value in the industry.
I highly doubt that this price increase would have any effect on the number of gamers using the Xbox Live service, especially in the countries where only the 1 month subscription price has changed. However, if you want to avoid paying the price increases for as long as possible, you can still buy all the subscriptions at the current price up uptil November 1st 2010.
The way I see it, the amount of time we all spend playing on xbox live it’s quite cheap, plus there many more features on xbox live nowadays such as zune and inside xbox.
Ps nice new website dan loving my bio lol
Definitely, won’t have any effect on most of the UK gamers, just the US mainly, not sure how much extra money they’ll be getting from UK, Mexico and Canada, I mean, how many people pay monthly?
Probably no one especially with that 3 months for £7.50 deal they’re bin doing lately
I really don’t think it’s too big of a deal either, 10$ extra a year is peanuts, especially considering Live’s new features.
