Microsoft have announced today that they are releasing a brand new Xbox 360 controller. The new controller is going to be released in a matt silver with with grey buttons, rather than the original green, red, yellow and blue. The analogue sticks have also changed, each having a more exaggerated concave shape.
That’s not all the changes though. The biggest changes come to the D-pad which transforms from the existing d-pad, which is more of a flush disc, to a popped out plus sign. To make this simple change, all you have to do is rotate the d-pad clockwise 90 degrees.
You may wonder, what’s the point, it just does the same thing. However, Microsoft have a few suggestions on what the controller can be used for:
Select the traditional plus for distinct cardinal direction movement in games like Halo: Reach to change weapons and perform complicated combinations and deadly finishing moves in Street Fighter games, or rotate the D-pad to the disc format for sweeping motions in games such as Pro Evolution Soccer 2011.
The new controller, bundled with a play and charge kit, will be hitting the shelves on 9th November in North America for $64.99. As Major Nelson says in the video above, the controller is expected to be released in Europe in February 2011, so some time to wait for UK gamers. Also, no word as to whether this controller will be released in other colours just yet, although the silver is pretty cool.
All I can say though is that I can’t wait to get my hands on one of these new controllers.
A huge fan of X-Box. I think that the rotating D-Pad is going to revolutionize the game play. I play Halo-3 all the time with my friends on weekends and I think, I’m gonna order this new controller for sure. Though the gray color is kinda classy, but all I care is for my game play. This is truly awesome. Waiting for the release EAGERLY.
