Earlier in July it was announced by Microsoft that they would be releasing yet another update for the Xbox Live service. The update was planned for August 11th and now with less than a week to go before the update, they have released further details about what we will be seeing next week. Although this update won’t contain all the new features that were announced at E3 this year, there are still some good ones to look forward to.
There are 2 major new features coming to the Xbox Live service next week. The first one being the Avatar Marketplace which will allow you to purchase clothing and props for your Xbox 360 avatar. Today on the Xbox Press site, they said how on release we will see avatar clothing from some big brands like Adidas, Quicksilver and Roxy. They also said how we will also be seeing the release of game based clothing from bit hits like Halo 3, Gears of War 2, Fable 2, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Bioshock 2 and a number of others.
Not alot was said about the props, just that they will be releasing them with the update. Comments were made to basketballs, pompoms and cell phones, whether they will be available on release is unknown.
Now for the second major feature in this update, the Games on Demand service. This new service will be replacing the current Xbox Originals service which allows you to download original Xbox games to your 360. Now you can download some of the best games via the internet anytime during the day.
When this new service launches, it will come with a range of 30 games for you to download at anytime during the day. They have said that they will be releasing brand new games to the service every Tuesday, quite a tough target to keep to but hopefully they will. Once you download your games using either Mirosoft Points, direct debit or credit card, it will be linked to your Xbox Live account, this means that you can delete the game from your console at anytime, and re-download it if you fancy playing it again.
As for the 30 games that will be available on release, here is the list:
These are just a couple of the great new features to expect in the update next week, watch out for the Netflix update aswell which will allow you to watch your downloaded movies in a virtual Xbox cinema with your buddies. Make sure you switch on your Xbox on August 11th to make sure your console is updated!
