Last week’s top 40 games chart has shown that crime really does pay. Chart-Track has released the top 40 gaming chart for the week ending September 4th and for a second week in a row, the top spot has gone to the recently released Mafia II. Despite a 23% reduction in sales since the previous week, which was the greatest fall of all the top 10 selling games, Mafia II publisher Take-Two still expects the game to continue bringing in the big bucks for some time to come.
With the Mafia II first DLC pack being released for Xbox 360 and PC tomorrow, it looks like Take-Two will be getting another money boost over the next few days but with Halo: Reach being released next week, don’t expect Mafia II to stay top for much longer.
As for other games in the top 10, a couple that surprised me included Wii Sports Resort which took the third spot this week, the highest since December 2009 after a 19% increase in sales. I suspect the recent offer that Game.co.uk has been offering for the Nintendo Wii will have something to do with that though. Another surprise was Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X 2 which only came in at number 10 in the charts, although only in it’s first week of release, I doubt it will make it to number 1 but I suspect it will get higher next week.
