Earlier this week I posted how you can get a free Left 4 Dead Premium Xbox dashboard theme when you buy the Official Xbox Magazine. Well, on the way back from the airport, I picked up my copy and got my free theme.

Left 4 Dead Premium Xbox Theme

I was slightly confused when I went to buy the magazine because when I picked it up, the cover was based on the upcoming Splinter Cell Conviction game. The reason it confused me was because at the beginning of the week I had read and seen pictures that the cover would in fact feature a Left 4 Dead cover. Anyway, after scouring down the features of the magazine and reading “Left 4 Dead NXE Theme!”, I handed over the cash.

The theme itself was amazingly simple to put on, all you have to do is put the disk in, scroll through to the theme and choose to add to your console. All you do then is go back to the dashboard and activate the theme.

Once activated your dashboard has a whole new look, and it’s awesome, particularly the friends section. On the standard friends page you get your Xbox buddies avatars standing outside a random background, with the Left 4 Dead theme all the backgrounds are changed and they now stand in front of run down buildings. There is also a sort of green cover on the screen which looks very good in the friends section because it makes all your Xbox buddies look slightly green and zombified.

The only downside I found with the theme is that the zombies in the background don’t move towards the screen. Maybe I’m being a little too fussy here but I think it would have made the theme even better.

Splinter Cell ConvictionOverall, whether you are planning on reading the magazine or not, the £5.99 price tag is worth it for the theme as well as some other bonus features that come on the disk. On the other hand, if you are interested in reading the magazine, here’s some of the content that is in this months issue:

  • Splinter Cell Conviction
  • Halo ODST
  • Alan Wake
  • Left 4 Dead 2
  • Mass Effect 2
  • Crackdown 2
  • Forza Motorsport 3
  • Bioshock 2
  • Project Natal

Finally, the ‘Face to Face’ story that has been included is an interesting read. This is where you can see the real life people who your gaming heroes are based on. Some of these include Louis from Left 4 Dead, Dr. Kleiner from Half Life (who is really some guy that was seen in a lift) and The G Man, just to name a few.

Back to the Xbox to enjoy the new dashboard some more.

  1. I think that the £5.99 price tag is well worth the theme. I didn’t even notice it was in there and I’ve read my other half’s copy! Going to go pop it on now!
