Is There Any Point Of Getting The New Xbox 360?

As I have just finished a post on my Florida Guide site I thought I would write about the new Xbox 360 as anyone who knows me will know how big I am on the gaming.

Any gamer will know the new Xbox 360 was released a few weeks ago here in the UK and although I was tempted to buy the thing I have to say I have learnt a few things in the last couple of weeks that has completely put me off the idea of getting one. This comes from someone who already owns one of the limited edition 250GB Modern Warfare 2 consoles.

The Reasons Microsoft Want You To Buy One

It would seem the biggest reasons Microsoft are actually trying to get existing 360 owners to dish out more money for this one is that it now comes with a massive 250GB hard drive, built in wireless and of course the icing on top of the cake… KINECT READY!!! But what does this all mean for an existing owner?

Existing 360 Owners

To be honest with you, if you have a 250GB elite console already you are an idiot if you have gone out and purchased the new console. The reason I am saying this is because the chances are you are already hooked up to Xbox Live by a cable or wireless adapter which leaves the question, why do you need built in wireless? If yours is being a bit slow it is actually cheaper for you to either increase your broadband speed or to go out and buy one of the new wireless N adapters for the 360 than it is to buy one of these consoles. Now that we have this issue sorted, what about the massive claim that the new console is Kinect Ready?

Well it would seem that although the console is Kinect ready it also seems that every other Xbox console is also Kinect ready too. False advertising Microsoft? The only difference is that you do not need to use the Kinect power lead with the new console as it just plugs straight into the back of the shiny new consoles. Does anyone really care that much about how the thing is plugged in? To confirm this I have a Twitter message from the official Xbox Support Twitter profile.

@ryanogs Kinect will come with everything you need to setup with any of the 360 consoles.^JT

All in all I would say that if you are thinking about getting one of the new Xbox 360 consoles, you should really think again. If you are stuck with one of the old arcades or a normal 360 console then go for it because it looks like a great console and you are less likely to suffer from the three red rings!

  1. I have a 120GB Elite console and the 3 things tempting me to but the slim are:

    1. It looks pwetty, though that barely qualifies as a reason

    2. The fact it’s ‘Kinect Ready’, though does this mean you will save money when Kinect is realsed by not having to buy the extra cable to plug it in?

    3. Although my box has been fine for 18 months, I have a funny feeling it’s going to red ring just before reach comes out :-s

    4. HMV are offering an Xbox slim for £90 when you trade in your old console…

  2. Sounds like HMV are actually offering a decent deal for once but kinect comes with everything you need including the cable so I wouldn’t worry about that, it might be worth it if you have a 120gb hard drive but the elite is better protected against overheating so the choice is yours mate!!
