When it comes to installing a game to your Xbox 360 hard drive, it’s always a bit hit and miss as to whether it will actually speed up the game, or just slow it down. For example, many gamers found that installing Halo 3 to their consoles actually slowed the load times down. So with the release of Halo: Reach, is it safe to install or not?
Well, Examiner.com have conducted some tests and they’ve found that installing the game onto your hard drive will save you valuable seconds when it comes to load times, giving you more time to shoot and less time staring at a dark screen.
The tests found that when loading a standard mission on an installed console will bring the load time down to 8 seconds, rather than the default 21 seconds, giving you 13 extra seconds of game-play. This is pretty good, however, it gets better if you’re playing Firefight. Rather than the standard 45 second wait time on a console without the game installed, by installing the game, you can expect to see load times of around 21 seconds, a massive 24 second improvement.
I certainly know what I’ll be doing tonight as soon as I power up my Xbox 360 because with results like that, you’d be silly not to install it really. I should point out though that the tests Examiner.com ran were using the default game settings and on an Elite console so if you’re running anything else, don’t expect the same results.
Even without a super speed-boost, the fact that the machine runs SO MUCH QUIETER after installing instead of running from the disk makes it worth it to install.
