It’s been announced during an interview with games site IGN that after the completion of both Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach, Bungie, creators of every Halo game (except Halo Wars), will be moving away from the Halo franchise to develop a brand new game title.
The interview was done by Lars Bakken, a member of the Bungie team who said this:
“After Reach that’s it for us. We’re already working on a new IP that we can’t talk about yet.”
It’s a shame nothing was said about the new title because with Bungie’s track record, we don’t know what type of game to expect.
If you always thought that Bungie had only done Halo, then you’re wrong. Before Bungie started creating the Halo games, they had developed third person games, as well as some real time strategy games, so really, we have no idea what sort of game could be coming our way in the future. No matter what the game is, it’s bound to be a great game.
Bungie certainly brought alot of fun to the gaming industry with the release of Halo 1 back in 2001, followed by the release of, Halo 2 and 3. With their final two Halo games already in production with Halo 3: ODST set for this September and Halo: Reach sometime in 2010, once that’s completed, Halo fans will definitely miss Bungie’s contribution to the franchise.
Although Bungie are moving on, this isn’t it for Halo. No way would Microsoft give up their biggest game on the Xbox, so they have passed the development of any future Halo games onto their recently announced 343 studios. Can’t wait to see what sort of stuff they come out with in the future years.
