Guitar Hero 5 LogoActivision Blizzard announced today that their latest game in the Guitar Hero series, Guitar Hero 5, is set for release on September 1st, conviniently 1 week before the release of The Beatles Rock Band which is due on the 9th.

This new Guitar Hero game will feature 85 master recordings of which include the like of The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, The White Stripes, Kings of Leon and Johnny Cash. All of these 85 tracks will be playable using the mic, guitar, bass or drums and available on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Playstation 2 and Nintendo Wii.

One new thing to the Guitar Hero game is the ability to play with more than one of the same instruments, say you and your mate can’t decide who has to play bass, well now you can both play guitar at the same time, which is similer to the face-off mode in the multiplayer.

Finally, if you have already donwloaded a whole bunch of songs for Guitar Hero World Tour then there is no need to worry, all these songs will be compatible with Guitar Hero 5, just like the Rock Band downloadable songs.

Hopefully this new Guitar Hero game will have a better set list than the last one and it will be enjoyable to play, we’ll just have to wait and see when more details are released. Also, although they are trying to undercut Rock Band by releaseing only a week before The Beatles: Rock Band, Rock Band will still manage to get a large number of sales because Beatles fans will choose the obvious, and anyway, being only a week apart, people are not likely to say, hmm, I was going to get the Rock Band game because I love the songs, but Guitar Hero comes out a week before, I have to get that.
