DuringĀ a radio interview, Green Day lead singer, Billie Joe Armstrong said the following: “Yeah we’re doing a whole Green Day Rock Band.” and when questioned about the release date of such a game he said: “I’m not sure. Soon. Not like this week soon, but this year soon. I think by the end of the year.”
So, could we be seeing another band based spin off of the popular music game Rock Band? We have already seen a range of spin off games been released in the last year, these include, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, AC/DC Live: Rock band aswell as some more recent ones like Guitar Hero: Metallica, Guitar Hero: Van Halen and the upcoming The Beatles: Rock Band.
However, is Green Day really a good choice for an entire game to be based on? Obviously they have had a huge career already but not compared to the likes of The Beatles and AC/DC who have spanned decades and are famous all over the world. I would have thought that Rock Band creators, Harmonix, would release a song pack which included some of the best Green Day songs, just like they have done with other bands like Rush, The Who and Red Hot Chilli Peppers just to name a few.
Not has been said yet from Harmonix themselves as to the announcement by Armstrong and I guess it’s a case of just waiting and seeing. In my opinion, no doubt if the game was created it would be popular because no music games so far have featured a large number of Green Day songs, but are they big enough to have their own spin off game? Plus with the release of The Beatles: Rock Band in September, the 2 game releases would be very close to one another.
If we don’t see an actual game being released, no doubt we will be seeing some downloadable tracks for the band considering there is a high demand for it on the Rock Band forums.
