The world’s thinnest TV goes on sale this week, the Sony Bravia ZX1. At only 9.9mm thick, this is the thinnest TV for sale in the world. The secret to bread thick TV is a new technology which Sony call, Edge LED. Instead of using a back light that is placed behind the screen, like current LCD TVs, Edge LED uses LED lights around the sides of the TV, saving alot of space.
It gets better, the TV comes with a separate media receiver which connects to all of your HD devices including Blu-Ray Players and Playstation 3′s, it then sends the signals through to the TV, allowing you to get crystal clear films, games and TV without the wires. All of this sounds awesome, however, it really requires you to have the full HD kit, if you want your old DVD player, sounds like you’ll either have to wire it up, or scrap it.
That one questionable feature behind, it still looks like an awesome TV to have, plus because it’s only 9.9mm thick, it only weighs a tiny 9.9kg.
So by the looks of it, this is the future, and Sony have started it off with the first one you can buy, but who take their crown as the thinnest TV? There are already several TV makers like Philips, JVC and Samsung who are developing their own thin TVs and most of them are thinner than Sony’s.
Philips have showed off their 8mm LCD TV. JVC is getting set for the release of their 7mm LCD, however, the slimmest so far is Samsung who have showed off a amazingly thin 6.5mm TV. Although all these TVs sound shockingly thin, they can be made even thinner. Some experts have said that due to the new technology that has been developed, we could see TVs as thin as 3mm.
Although television technology is going well, with the big names I’ve already mentioned making paper thin TVs, and other companies like Philips, Hyundai and Sky looking into developing 3D TV, will the user really be after it? During the economic downturn, will people really want to splash the cash for these expensive items?
Technology never stopped amazing me. Just when I think that it couldn’t get any more incredible it does. I love these new TVs and I’m thinking of getting one for my den — can’t wait!
This is called awesome technology, we will get more incredible technology in future because its never ends, as far as Thinnest TV is concern i want to get ASAP as all the features are wounder full. To get this technology just like a dream…..
Thanks …
