After a 6 day countdown on the Lionhead Studios website, which featured 6 famous rulers from the past, the news that they were leading up to has now been announced at GamesCon.
Peter Molyneux announced today during the Microsoft conference that Fable 3 will be released sometime in 2010, however, “don’t expect it too early in 2010.”
The new game is set 50 years after the events that take place in Fable 2 and you play as your character from Fable 2′s child, either a son or a daughter, in classic Fable style, you can decide which. Once you have chosen your sex, your journey then begins to become the ruler of all Albion, that’s right, you can become the King or Queen.
However, you won’t be just walking into the throne. You will have to over throw the current ruler who is evil, but even that won’t be simple. Along your journey you will have to promise things to people to gain support and power so that eventually you can become King or Queen.
Even once you have become the leader of all of Albion, your job will still not be done. You will have to keep control of the world, like any leader would. You can decide where you want to invest money in, or whether to raise an area’s taxes, very similar to the rent concept in Fable 2.
Not only will you have to make decisions about where you spend Albion’s money, you will also have to make decisions about crime. “Albion looks a lot different, a lot more industrial. A lot of injustice, a lot of crime takes place.” is what Molyneux said during the conference. You will have to decide what you will do and how to punish people who commit crimes.
It looks like we can expect a whole lot more from this next game in the Fable franchise. No doubt even more decision making than ever before which means that you the gamer will get even more control over the whole around you and how it’s shaped.
One thing that wasn’t said during the conference was whether the new Fable 3 would use the features of Project Natal which was announced at E3 this year. We know that Lionhead Studios have been developing the technology so could we be seeing it in Fable 3 or would Fable 4 be more likely?
As for what’s going to happen with the current amazingly popular Fable 2 game, no details were announced about additional chapters for the game that could be coming in the future. However, some details were given regarding a new way to buy the game.
As of September 29th, Xbox Live members will be able to download the Fable 2 game in smaller chapters. The first chapter will be free to download and play, once you have completed that, you will then have the choice to buy the next chapter, or the rest of the game. Unfortunately, no pricing has been announced yet for the other chapters of the game, we only know that the first one will be free.
I think it has to have Natal with it, the release dates for both of them are late next year and we know Lionhead has been working with it for quite sometime!!!
Yeh I would be surprised if it didn’t. Lionhead Studios are always looking for new things to bring into their games to make them more interactive for the gamer, Natal is the icing on the cake to make their games some of the best. Just aslong as it’s done well and not cheaply
