Battlefield Bad Company 2EA announced today that we will soon be seeing some new additions to the Battlefield title. The first one being Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Bad Company 2 is the sequel to the brilliant 2008 game, Battlefield: Bad Company. This new game continues from the original where you play as part of ‘B Company’, a group of outcasts from the American army, and just like in the first game, the new one will still allow you to destroy the surrounding environment with whatever weapons available. EA also said that the new Bad Company would have more emphasis vehicle combat. Battlefield: Bad Company is planned for a Winter 2009 release on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC.

EA also announced that DICE, creators of the Battlefield games, are also working on Battlefield 1943 which is going to be a downloadable game available for the Xbox 360, Playstation and PC’s. This game will be focused on online play where you can compete against 24 other players in the air or on the ground.

Battlefield 1942Although EA had a very good final quarter of 2008 with games like Fifa 09, bringing in almost 8 million sales, and Need For Speed Undercover which gathered just over 5 million sales. EA also had some woes with games like Warhammer Online, the MMO had over 750,000 subscribers in October whereas now it has dropped to a mere 300,000. It seems that MMO’s just can’t compete with the likes of World of Warcraft which boasts a massive 11.5 million subscribers.

These announcements of new games came after EA reported losses of $641 million in the October – December 2008 period, they also said that they will be increasing their job cuts to approximately 1,100. So, to help boost confidence in the company, the CEO, John Riccitiello, announced these upcoming releases.

Hopefully EA will be able to hang on in there, otherwise it could prove to be trouble for game makers considering the amount of games EA publish.

Hi I'm Dan (aka Scrooby). I'm an 18 year old gamer and full time Web Developer for FreshEgg. Most of gaming tends to be on the Xbox 360 mainly because I love the achievement system. My favourite games are mainly FPS games, Halo, Gears of War and Call of Duty are particular favourites. However, I'll play pretty much all genres of games, anything from Guitar Hero 5 to Lego Harry Potter, they're all great!
