Mafia II Game Review

After several weeks without any decent games being released in June/July, I was really pleased to see Mafia II being released so not buying it was out of the question really, and to be honest, I’m glad I did buy it. In the week since the game was released, I have completed the game and have started playing through it again and although I know the storyline from the first run through, it still entertains me and keeps me gripped. The American dream… In the game you play as Vito Scaletta, son of a Sicilian family who moved to America when he was a boy. While growing up you become friends with Joe Barbaro which leads to the pair of…

Since it’s release back in April, the iPad has become massively popular. Selling more than 3 million units by the end of June, along with the release of the iPhone 4, the iPad has rocketed Apple’s profits. Ever since the day of release, more and more games have been released for the iPad, both new games and old classics from the iPhone which have been revamped for the larger screen. If you were just like me and couldn’t decide which games to buy first with your hard earned cash, below are some of the best games that you can buy for the iPad right now. I should point out that the majority of these are paid games, however, they are…

Borderlands Review

When I first heard about Borderlands, I didn’t really think that much about it. It looked like another average game that I didn’t really need but after a slow month for games I decided to use my valuable game reward points to buy it and im afraid, I was right, it was average. The story of the game is that you are one of four mercenaries, Siren, Soldier, Hunter and Berserker. You have come to the planet Pandora in search of an alien vault which is said to contain alien technology. Now onto the game play. At the start of the game, you chose one of the classes that you level up during the course of the game. The class…

Forza 3 Game Review

My final racing game of the year for the Xbox 360 arrived this week and it has certainly proved to be the best one of the year so far. The game shocked me slightly when it first arrived, mainly because it arrived on Tuesday when the game wasn’t released until Friday. The second thing that shocked me was that it came with two discs, one being an install disc. I’m not sure if this is common practice on Forza games, as this is the first one that I’ve bought, but it certainly came as a surprise for me. As for the content of the second disc, when you load up the first disc you are made aware that the second…

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising Game Review

Written by Ryanogs on 18th October, 2009

I looked at Operation Flashpoint a few times before the release, but I was wary as to whether it would stand up against other FPS games. After hearing a number of people saying how good it really was, I chose to buy it. It’s obviously a big hit with gamers considering the first 2 shops I went to had sold out, been some time since that had happened. The story of the game takes place on an island just off the coast of Japan in the near future. The Russians actually own the island, however, it is contested territory between the owners and China. Sparks start to fly on the island when there is a huge oil deposit discovered and…

Halo 3: ODST Game Review

Written by Scrooby on 28th September, 2009

This week has seen the release of the latest Halo game, Halo 3: ODST. This new game is like no others before unlike all the other games, you don’t play as Master Chief. So this introduces something new into the Halo universe, but does it really stand up to the previous games? I would say no. The game starts off with your team of ODST’s (Orbital Drop Shock Troopers), they have just been given new orders to go down to New Mombasa, a super city, and begin attack on Regret’s cruiser. The way your team gets down to the city is via individual pods called HEVs, however, during flight the newly appointed mission leader redirects the pods, but before they…

Need For Speed: Shift Game Review

Written by Scrooby on 20th September, 2009

A brand new Need For Speed game has been released, and this one takes the player in an entirely new direction. Throughout the lifespan of the Need For Speed games, they have varied what type of racing it is, some with more success than others. If you remember Need For Speed: ProStreet, this was where you took part in street races to become the king of the streets, however, this type of game didn’t prove to be so successful. Their next game, Need For Speed: Undercover featured a more open world where you would drive around the city and pick up races at traffic lights, very similar to Burnout Paradise. I personally liked that game, although some would disagree. Now,…

Dirt 2 Game Review

When I first heard that Codemasters were in the process of making a sequel to the amazing rally game, Colin Mcrae: Dirt, I was really pleased. The original Dirt game was amazing, not only did you get a good taste of rally driving, but they also included different types of races where you could race in anything from buggies to Hummers, all in brilliant graphics. All of this great gameplay is maintained in the sequel, plus even better graphics, despite the legend Colin Mcrae passing away. More and more games recently have been creating more of a focal point of the menu screen. The first time I really took notice of this was in Fifa 09 where the menu screen allows…

Guitar Hero 5 Game Review

Written by Scrooby on 12th September, 2009

The latest edition to the Guitar Hero franchise has been released this week, and it can only be described in one word really, ‘Wow!’ When Activision first announced their lineup for 2009, I was surprised because they were releasing so many new Guitar Hero games and I was concerned that they wouldn’t really be up to good standards if they were releasing so many. However, they have proven me wrong with this latest release. For Activision, the new Guitar Hero 5 game is the latest ‘template’ for their upcoming games, what this means is that all the smaller games made from now on will be built from this latest game, which is great. Previously, the template for their games had…

The Beatles: Rock Band Game Review

Written by Scrooby on 10th September, 2009

When I first heard that Harmonix were creating a new Beatles based Rock Band game, I was slightly unsure as I am not a huge fan of The Beatles. I like some of their classic songs but otherwise I’m not a big fan. Anyway, I decided to buy it simply because it’s a Rock Band game and it’s most likely got some great new features. However, it didn’t have as many as I would have liked. The biggest thing that stands out in this new game is the amount of time and effort that’s been put into making all the cut-scene movies and the characters. The biggest and most impressive movie of the game has to be the intro movie…
