Female Player Characters Finally Come to the Gears of War Series

Written by D21 on 25th March, 2011

There’s something rather unusual appearing in the latest Gears of War game: women. More specifically, Gears of War 3 is the first game in the series to feature female characters who aren’t simply NPCs. Kotaku was quick to point out that, according to the universe’s lore, women have been primarily required to pump out babies in order to replace those lost in the Locust invasions (those women that do take part in any fighting tend to only do so as they can’t have kids); nice. Gears of War 3, however, is to feature Anya Stroud, daughter of Major Helena Stroud. Raised by her mother, Anya is, sure enough, one of the aforementioned women who is unable to have kids and…

Call Of Duty- Time To Stop?

Written by Ryanogs on 14th January, 2011

Call Of Duty is a franchise that started way back in 2003 and dived into what Medal of Honour had already been doing in simulating the infantry efforts in WW2. Since the first game we have had COD 2, 3,4 (modern warfare), world at war, modern warfare 2 and Black Ops and this is only including the main games in the franchise. My question to all is should this franchise now stop? I know I am going to get a lot of angry COD fans on me for this one but I am a fan myself and I have just had enough of playing the same game over and over again, surely there are other gamers that are not feeling…

MMO’s Can’t Compete With World of Warcraft

Written by Scrooby on 23rd February, 2009

It seems that the latest attempts to crack into the MMO market and steal some of the customers away from World of Warcraft has failed. With games like Warhammer Online and Age of Conan, there were some thoughts that World of Warcraft may loose some subscribers, but that doesn’t seem to be the fact. The first game to be released, Age of Conan, in May 2008, seemed to have a reasonably good start, with 400,000 subscribers, which then rose up to 700,000 within the first few months. However, it has gone down hill slightly. In January, Funcom, announced that they would be shutting down over half of the Conan servers, and recently, there have been rumors that Conan’s subscriber level…

My patience is being stretched by Microsoft

As I posted recently, I have had the purchasing section of my Xbox Live Account locked because my details were different to the ones on the credit card. So after I had found out about the error online, I changed my details to the correct ones, and then I called them, and after giving all my details, they told me to check my details were correct, which I knew they were, so I humoured them and checked them, and they were correct. Calling them again, they told me someone would phone back in 2 days, which they did. While on the phone for the third time, they basically said that all the details, even the first name must be the…

Wrath of the Lich King released, well, for some people

Written by Scrooby on 13th November, 2008

As you might know, the World of Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, has now been released and the battle to level 80 has begun, well, for some people that is. I ordered my Wrath of the Lich King from Game.co.uk about a month ago and knowing Game, I received my game the day before it came out, which is rather awesome as it allows me to install the game and play it as soon as the servers open up at midnight. But for some other people that have pre-ordered the game, this hasn’t happened. Several people I know ordered their games from Play.com, and did not receive them a day before, or even on the day of the…

WoW Midnight Openings

Written by Scrooby on 4th November, 2008

With the upcoming release of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King next Thursday, the 13th, Blizzard has announced that there will be many midnight openings which will start to sell the games at 12:00am local time. However, these openings, to me, don’t seem to be that special. Today, a list of the stores that would be open was released onto the World of Warcraft website, but if you look at the list, most of the shops are Tesco stores which are open 24 hours a day anyway, the only exceptions are a few HMV stores which will be opening for the occasion, the biggest one being the London HMV which will have some of the developers of the…

The moment millions of World of Warcraft players have been waiting for has arrived. The release date of the second expansion to the massively popular MMO, World of Warcraft. World of Warcraft: The Wrath of the Lich King has been announced as the 13th November 2008, although some of you may say that when the first expansion was released, The Burning Crusade, the actual release date was 3 months after the announcement date, but hopefully they have done a better job of predicting the date this time. Blizzard has also announced that there will be a standard edition and a collectors edition, I’m sure the collectors will sell like hot cakes. The collectors edition will feature the following bonuses: Wrath…

Have you ever wanted to play God? Well you now can with the latest game by EA. SPORE has been created from the mind of Will Wright, creator of The Sims, and allows you to control a species from bacteria to galactic domination. The game is split up into 6 main sections: Tidepool phase – Swim your way round fighting other creatures to grow and evolve into more of a dominant species. Creature phase – Step into 3D and onto land during this phase where you discover other creatures and you can choose to become friend or foe.
