Call Of Duty is a franchise that started way back in 2003 and dived into what Medal of Honour had already been doing in simulating the infantry efforts in WW2. Since the first game we have had COD 2, 3,4 (modern warfare), world at war, modern warfare 2 and Black Ops and this is only including the main games in the franchise.
My question to all is should this franchise now stop?
I know I am going to get a lot of angry COD fans on me for this one but I am a fan myself and I have just had enough of playing the same game over and over again, surely there are other gamers that are not feeling the love from this game anymore?
The last time I really enjoyed playing a COD game was back when the first Modern Warfare game was released and this is because it was different. It was nice to take a break from WW2 as it has been used time and time again in the video game industry and is almost frowned upon now.
However upon the release of World at War we saw a return to WW2 and although this time it was a bit rougher as the majority of the game was spent fighting the Japanese in the Pacific it was still a return to a war we didn’t want to go back too. Then came the release of MW2 and there were really no changes other than the story shift and the small improvements made to multiplayer. (Some of the cool spy gadgets did impress me though I have to say.) I was also impressed by the story but I am also impressed by how people find Ricky Gervais funny, it doesn’t mean I think he is good.
Then came the release of Black Ops, Treyarch’s attempt at pretty much copying the success of Modern Warfare and in my opinion creating a very poor final product.
I for one have had enough of seeing the same game churned out year in and year and unless the next COD game (either MW3 or some space game) shows me that something new is coming to the series then I for one, am out.
No video game should be released at £40 if it is a simple rehash of the last game with a change of clothing and guns and no game should have the right to charge 1200 Microsoft Points for a couple of maps! I can’t understand how people aren’t seeing they are being ripped off by Activision on this one.
So what do you guys think, could it perhaps be time for the COD series to make its last stand?
You are absolutely right on all counts. It’s just a rip off.
