If you look at the list of upcoming games online, you will see that on the run up to Christmas, plus for a number of months after it, there is a massive amount of games being released. Now this is a definite good thing because it will keep be busy.
The thing about the majority of the games being released is that they are sequels as in either continuing the story of the previous game, like Bioshock 2 , or just another game in the series like Fifa 10. There is nothing wrong with this really because you obviously know the last game is good so you won’t shouldn’t be disappointed.
The only downside is that with some of the games that you just want to play when they are released is that you haven’t played the previous game. I came across this problem at the weekend when I realised I hadn’t played Bioshock 1 when I want to play Bioshock 2. This problem was easily solved by simply buying the original game.
This is what I am getting at here, there are some great releases lined up and with some of the previous games, you can get real bargains because they have been out a while. Here are a few examples of original games that you can pick up at a bargain before the new one is released.
Dead Rising: You can pick this game up on the Xbox 360 for around £15, it’s a great game to play and although the new one doesn’t follow on, it’s still a great classic to play.
Left 4 Dead: The second game doesn’t follow on from the original but I thought I’d point it out because it is such a great game, one of the best FPS multiplayers you can buy on the PC and Xbox. It’s not that old so it will set you back £25 for a new copy.
Mass Effect: You’ll have to watch out for this one because you can pick up the original box version for £10, but the classic box is £18. It’s exactly the same game so no need to get the less attractive classic box for more money.
Crackdown: This is one of the early Xbox 360 games, it was released back in early 2007 and it was the game that came with the Halo 3 beta. You can pick up the classic box for £13.
Just Cause: When this was released is wasn’t hugely popular but I thought it was quite a good game, no doubt the sequel will be even better now that they’ve had the chance to learn from their mistakes. £10 is all it will cost you to play this game.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare: The sequel to this is going to be one of the biggest releases of 2009. If you haven’t yet played the original I would recommend that you do because it’s absolutely brilliant. Unfortunately, because it’s so popular, it hasn’t dropped in price since it’s released last year, it’s still £40 on Xbox, but you can save some money on PC and get it for £20.
Halo 3: One of the best games ever to be released onto the Xbox 360 in my opinion. Halo 3: ODST is the next game to be released and it’s set between Halo 2 and Halo 3 so playing both would help with the story. You can pick up this amazing game for £18 only on the Xbox 360.
Bioshock: As I said earlier, I only got this game the otherday and it’s currently sitting in my disk drive waiting to be played. But according to the box and a number of sites it’s 10/10, so my hopes are high. Can’t wait to play the second one though. If you’re after this game on PC it will cost you only £10, on Xbox it’s £15.
All of the above are great games to play and I am definately looking forward to every one of their sequels. Obviously there are some better ways to play the games rather than buying new, you could possibly rent the games to try them out, or possibly opt for preowneds. The only problem with preowned is that as most of these games are very cheap already, you won’t get much of a bargain by buying second hand.
A good marketing idea for the game publishers would be to realease the discounted bundles which include both the original and the new games. This would makeit cheaper for gamers to buy both, and would gain a few more sale on the original for the publishers.
Very good idea, I’m surprised more publishers don’t do that. They did it with the latest Chronicles of Riddick game and I for one am glad that they did. Although I guess the gap between those 2 games was quite a stretch so some people might not have realised that there was an original. But still, brilliant idea by yourself
