Borderlands LogoWhen I first heard about Borderlands, I didn’t really think that much about it. It looked like another average game that I didn’t really need but after a slow month for games I decided to use my valuable game reward points to buy it and im afraid, I was right, it was average.

The story of the game is that you are one of four mercenaries, Siren, Soldier, Hunter and Berserker. You have come to the planet Pandora in search of an alien vault which is said to contain alien technology.

Now onto the game play. At the start of the game, you chose one of the classes that you level up during the course of the game. The class you chose does not make that much difference because you can still use all of the guns, the only difference really is your special move, which is different for each class. The game uses a levelling tree that has three different sections for you to put your points. You earn points by completing missions and killing enemies. There aren’t that many different mission types, they basically follow the same objectives, go to some place and kill something or pick something up.

Borderlands CharactersNow the main thing to do in the game is pick up loot such as weapons, there are several different types of weapons, which include: pistol, smg, shotguns the usual types of weapons. One of the cool things that Gearbox has done with this game is created a random gun generator which supposedly is able to create an unlimited amount of guns.

Now onto the graphics and audio. The visuals in Borderlands are very cool, the game uses Cel-shaded animation and it works really well the characters and monsters look really cool in Cel- shaded. The audio on the other hand is nothing to talk about, I chose to put my own music on after only little while of listening to the games.

Summary

Overall this game is average, it’s nothing special, it’s just an average shooter and doesn’t have a good enough story for it to be a decent RPG. It has four player co-op which the game handles well and doesn’t lag, the game will take about 18 hours to get 100% and shorter if you are doing it in co-op. If you do want to try the game I recommend you rent the game.

Good Points = Lots and lots of guns.

Bad Points = Lack of story, the ending.

I give this game a 7/10.

  1. I didn’t like the look of Borderlands, the style of animation was a real turn down for me, maybe it’s just me but that style looks really cheap.

From the sound of your review, I think I was right to not buy it.
