Battlefield Bad Company LogoI know this game was released back in 2007, but when it came out I rented it and my blog wasn’t up at the time. Now I have bought the game at a bargain price and with the sequel being released later this year, I thought I’d review it for anyone that hasn’t yet played it.

When Battlefield Bad Company was released back in 2007, I was excited about it because the previous Battlefield game was Battlefield 2142 which featured no single player campaign and extremely long loading screens so in my opinion it was a bit of a let down. However, I was not disappointed by Bad Company when I first got it, and I’m still not tired of it now.

You play as Private Preston Marlowe who is a convict who had two choices, either go to prison for a long time, or enter into B-Company, he chooses the latter. B-Company is made up of 4 members (including Preston) who are similar to Preston. They are all military rejects who are slung into B-Company for the things that they have done.

B-Company is used as an expendable squad who are sent into combat first before the big guns are sent in, somehow, they always seem to make it out fine.

Battlefield Bad Company CharactersThe story of the game starts where you join B-Company and the first mission is basically finding your feet and completing missions  for the army. However, on your mission Sweetwater, a team member, find a mercenary soldier who is part of the Legionnaires, who are the deadliest mercenary group in the world. Sweetwater informs the squad that these mercenaries are paid in gold bars, which they find on the dead merc.

Once they find this first gold bar they continue with their army tasks, however, when they get shunted by the army, they go on their own mission to track down a truck convoy full of mercenary gold.

That’s pretty much the plot of the game and it’s pretty damn good.

While you’re playing through the campaign, there are a huge number of features collectibles to find that make the game even more fun. The collectibles are either new weapons or gold bar left behind by the mercenaries which are scattered all around the maps, there are Xbox achievements for finding these items.

As for other features, the most fun one is the destructible environments. This is where you can destroy a huge amount of the landscape, although not as much as Red Faction Guerilla, it’s still pretty fun. You can use a range of explosives to blow things up such as a grenade launcher, rocket launcher or C4. This feature really makes the game fun plus more tactical because you can breach walls to flank your enemies or simply charge them by surprise.

Battlefield Bad Company ExplosionThere is one factor that makes the game slightly simpler, that is the way the regain health. When you get hit a few times, you get out a tool, which I forget the name of, and you inject it into you, this then regenerates all of your health. The even better thing about this tool is that it has about a 5 second cool down, and then you can use it again! It has no limit.

The graphics of the game are pretty awesome, considering the game is 2 years old, it really does compete with some games that have just been released and if you had no idea when the game was released you really would think it was brand new.

The only downside I can find really with the game is the amount of weapons that you can carry. I say this because as you go around the game you find new weapons on the group which you can pick up, each come with a secondary item like a grenade or a pistol. However, because you can only carry one main weapon you do have to decide whether you want say a sniper rifle or a machine gun.

Summary

Overall, this game is simply awesome and it has to be one of my favorite games on the Xbox 360. It has a great, entertaining storyline that you will want to continue playing to the end, aswell as some great features to make the game even better. I simply can’t wait for the Bad Company 2 to be released.

Good points = Destructible scenery, great storyline, even better graphics.

Bad points = Can’t carry lots of weapons, difficult tank movement.

I would give this game a 9/10, it’s great!
