Batman Arkham AsylumGreat bit of news, the Batman: Arkham Asylum demo was released onto Xbox Live yesterday, and it’s absolutely brilliant. The game is set for release on August 28th and this demo really does give us a taster of how awesome the game is going to be when it’s released.

The demo does take a while to download, being 1.58GB, which is not a surprise really because although the actual bit you play it quite short, the quality of the graphics is fantastic.

Once you start up the demo, you are greeted with a cut scene of The Batman delivering Joker back to Arkham Asylum after a relatively easy arrest. However, this then turns around on the caped crusader and you then have to start your mission to get through the asylum and put a stop to the Jokers evil plans.

The 2 major things you notice when playing the demo is, one, the brilliant quality of the characters and the surrounding environment. Two, the fight scenes.

Being Batman, you don’t use weapons so you stick to fist and kicks, and that’s really all you need because the breathtaking quality of the punches and the kicks is simply mind blowing. Just fighting a few bad guys is so fun and looks great.

Batman: Arham Asylum Collectors EditionsA few things that I noticed while going around on the demo was that it’s a little similar to X-Men Origins: Wolverine game because in both games, you enter a sort of sense mode where you can see what items you can grapple onto and jump from etc. Also, towards the end of the Batman demo, you catch a glimpse of a rather large enemy, who looks alot like some of the bigger guys from the Wolverine game. It will be interesting to see if there are any more similarities in the two games when it’s released later this month.

The final thing I noticed was that the way the camera is positioned, it’s a very Gears of War style where you character is positioned off center to the left. However, as Batman, when you sprint, you then are repositioned to the center of the screen which is pretty handy.

I would really recommend downloading this demo, whether you intend to buy the game or not, it’s such great fun. And I really should get on with pre-ordering my copy as the release date is only about 20 days away, can’t wait!!

    • So true, the combat had to be one of the best things in the game, it’s just so powerful and the way you can flow from one guy to another is wicked!
